What is a Delineator?
A delineator is a flexible and durable traffic safety device used to organize pedestrian and vehicle traffic, create lane separations, and improve road safety. Traffic delineators are often preferred to guide vehicles safely and prevent accidents. Thanks to their flexible structure, they do not damage vehicles and are highly durable.
Delineators are typically made from high-quality materials like thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), which offers superior impact resistance and reduces the risk of breakage. More economical alternatives, such as thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) and polyethylene (I20), are also available, though their flexibility and durability are lower.
Known colloquially as traffic cones, flexible posts, or safety bollards, delineators are essential for lane separation and road safety.
Delineator Sizes and Applications
Delineators are available in a range of sizes, from 30 cm to 100 cm in height, and common diameters include 7 cm, 8 cm, and 10 cm. They are frequently used for traffic management and lane organization. The base diameter, typically around 20 cm, makes them ideal for secure ground installation.
The variety of sizes and weights allows delineators to be customized according to specific needs. Traffic delineators can be easily mounted on both asphalt and concrete surfaces, offering long-lasting performance.
Delineator Colors and Reflective Features
Standard delineator colors are orange, chosen for its high visibility and warning properties. Custom colors like black, white, and yellow are also available upon request. Additionally, the reflective bands on delineators ensure they remain visible both day and night, enhancing safety. These reflective bands are Type-4 grade, offering high performance and UV resistance.
How to Identify Quality Delineators
A quality delineator is made from TPU material and certified with TSE and CE standards. The body of the product should be durable, and the reflective bands should be Type-4 for optimal visibility and performance. These features are crucial to ensuring both safety and longevity in delineators.
How to Install a Delineator
Delineators feature three pre-drilled holes for easy installation on various surfaces like asphalt or concrete. Using trifon screws and plugs, the product can be securely fastened. For added grip, chemical epoxy can be used to increase surface adhesion.
